František Brikcius is a London-based Czech cellist, artistic director, and independent filmmaker with a distinguished international profile. Dedicated to expanding the reach of solo and chamber cello literature, his performance career spans concert halls and arts festivals across more than thirty countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. He is highly regarded both for his authoritative interpretations of the core classical canon and for his extensive musicological research into suppressed 20th-century repertoire and contemporary compositions.

Born in Prague into a prominent cultural family, Brikcius began playing the cello in early childhood. He formalised his training at the Prague Conservatoire under Jaroslav Kulhan before earning his Master’s degree from the Janáček Academy of Music (JAMU) under Evžen Rattay. He completed his advanced international studies at the Toho Gakuen Academy in Japan and in the United Kingdom under the celebrated tutelage of Professor Anna Shuttleworth, a definitive student of Pablo Casals. A multi-award-winning performer, Brikcius secured top prizes at the Anglo-Czech Competition and the International String Competition London. His artistic work and research initiatives have been recognised with major fellowships from the Czech Music Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and the Gideon Klein Foundation.

Beyond his work as a touring soloist, Brikcius is an active force in European cultural curation and education. He serves as the artistic director for multiple international music festivals, including the Festival Brikcius chamber series in Prague, the Bach Festival Gers in France, and London’s Waltham Forest Cello Fest. A first-call adjudicator, he regularly serves on the juries of major global music and film competitions, including the Berliner International Music Competition and the Baku International Cinema Festival. Performing on a rare 1904 George Kriwalski cello, Brikcius balances his active concert calendar with international masterclasses and remote coaching for advanced students worldwide.
