Rob Barron
“This is classic piano trio jazz at it’s very best.”
About
Rob Barron is a London-based jazz pianist, arranger, and composer widely regarded as one of the most creative and versatile musicians of his generation. A mainstay of the UK jazz and studio scenes, he is a "first-call" pianist known for an improvisational style and deft touch inspired by Blue Note legends Cedar Walton and Wynton Kelly.
Barron's career is defined by a deep respect for musical history anchored by elite formal training. A graduate of Leeds College of Music (BA Hons) and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (MA), he has flourished as both a leading soloist and a sought-after sideman. He has performed alongside international jazz heavyweights including Phil Woods, Al Jarreau, Marlena Shaw, and Patti Austin, as well as touring extensively with premier UK saxophonist Dave O’Higgins.
Beyond the jazz stage, Barron maintains a prolific career in the film and session world. He has contributed to over 30 albums and numerous major motion picture soundtracks, including Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, The Fantastic Four, and Cats. His orchestral and big band experience is extensive, featuring regular appearances with the BBC Big Band, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Rob Barron Trio
Formed in 2012, this ensemble serves as Barron's primary vehicle for personal musical expression. A regular fixture at Ronnie Scott’s, the trio has opened for legendary acts such as the Kenny Barron Trio and Cecile McLorin Salvant. Their 2020 release, From This Moment On, received a rare 5-star review from BBC Music Magazine, which called it "classic piano trio jazz at its very best". To date, the album has surpassed 7 million streams on digital platforms.
